Perfluorence GmbH

Dresden

High-performance plastics for use in industry: perfluorence - Wherever components such as gear wheels or plain bearings are in relative motion to each other, lubricants, but also plastics, help to minimise friction and wear. The company Perfluorence has developed a specially refined fluoropolymer as an additive for this purpose. It is incorporated as a solid lubricant in plastics or in additives for lubricants. Compared to other materials, it increases the service life of component systems such as bearings or drives and makes it possible to open up new areas of application - such as gear lubrication for industrial or wind power plants. The founders Thomas Engelhardt, Hagen Marks and Frederico Rosenbaum are also working on expanding the product portfolio with other plastic components. Perfluorence was founded in 2013 as a spin-off of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden.

Implisense GmbH

Berlin

Knowing what moves the customers: Implisense - Almost every company has an Internet presence. For sales staff, there is plenty of information about potential customers available online. But finding the right data in the flood of information and using it appropriately is considerably more difficult. The Implisense team has developed a technology to use text analysis methods for better market and competition monitoring. Implisense provides small and medium-sized enterprises with up-to-date information about their respective markets. Text mining is used to automatically extract information from websites. In this way, companies can recognise potential at an early stage and use it for their sales.

Plexian GmbH & Co.KG

Munich

Algorithms with a feeling for the rhythm - With a sophisticated approach, Plexian GmbH & Co. KG optimises assembly processes in the automotive industry. The key to this lies in the so-called clocking, i.e. the distribution of work processes to different stations. This is so complex that until now it has been calculated by hand. Plexian founder Christoph Meier offers significant progress with his business model: he has developed a software that automates the line balancing with special algorithms. The result: the quality of the assembly line can be increased and costs can be reduced, as a first test at a large German car manufacturer showed last year. Plexian's services currently lie in consulting and software development: the customers' data are evaluated and the sequencing is efficiently adapted. Meier's concept has potential because other industries, such as machine tool manufacturing, are also struggling with time-consuming scheduling.
The question of how Plexian can gain more publicity and what risks joint ventures entail are on Meier's mind before the winners' weekend.

gestigon GmbH

Lübeck

Gestures control devices: gestigon - Devices that execute commands at a wave or a gesture - that sounds a lot like Hollywood. In the real world, the necessary technology already exists. It is called touchless image navigation and is on its way to market maturity. Gestigon, a spin-off of the University of Lübeck, has developed the software that recognises hand and body gestures and translates them into commands. The basic principle of the process: a 3D camera detects a movement, the software assigns this gesture to a specific command. Games, advertising, medical technology - there are plenty of applications for the gestigon software.

JuicyWalls GmbH & Co.& KG (Früher: JuicyWalls GbR)

Offenbach am Main

JuicyWalls - Individuality for your own four walls - Whether pictures of sunflower fields or of the last summer holiday on Sylt - with JuicyWalls there are no limits to the design of walls. With the website, Mark Hussain and Marcus Dörr enable their customers to design wallpapers and canvases individually. "Our offer is aimed at ordinary consumers, but also at painters, exhibitions and shop fitters or architects," says Hussain.
Juicywalls also offers the so-called partner shop. For this, the business partner can integrate the computer programme on his own site. When orders are placed via the partner shops, Juicywalls takes care of payment processing, production, logistics and end-customer support.
The makers of Juicywalls have many plans: they want to establish an offline version of the programme and conquer foreign markets. For the implementation of their plans, they received helpful tips from WECONOMY.
